Functional Rehabilitation

Functional Rehabilitation

If our mobility has become impaired as a result of injury, illness or a period of incapacity it can become difficult to get back to our previous level of fitness or mobility. Functional rehabilitation also encompasses falls prevention – falls can be due to underlying medical factors, but are often down to our strength, stamina & balance deteriorating with age and recurrent falls can have a big affect on your independence. Physiotherapy can help through exercises which focus on day to day movements and activities to restore strength and balance, as well as your confidence. It can also help you to manage better in your own home for example using the stairs after a hospital stay, to find and use the most suitable aids if required, or progressing between aids such as from a zimmer frame to walking sticks. Sessions can also include outdoor mobility – often people are confident indoors but struggle more outdoors which can greatly affect independence. Home visits are available for clients with limited mobility and are often more suited for clients wishing to improve their functional mobility.
